New York attorney sends urgent letter to Governor Cuomo, praising the leader’s handling of the crisis and urging financial support for healthcare workers, police officers, firefighters, and others who suffer injuries fighting the coronavirus.

MINEOLA, NY, April 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ — Announced today, New York attorney Stuart L. Finz is urging the Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, to spearhead the establishment of a medical compensation fund for workers on the frontline in New York’s coronavirus crisis.

In an urgent letter to the Governor, Mr. Finz advocates for the creation of a government fund to support frontline workers who have suffered physical and psychological harm while attending to New Yorkers in their battle against COVID-19, as well as for the families of frontline workers who have perished. The letter lists doctors, nurses, hospital staff, emergency medical technicians, police officers and firefighters among those who are at the forefront of the pandemic.

“Nobody has risen to the challenge, or given more than New York’s frontline workers, despite working unending shifts under battlefield conditions,” Mr. Finz wrote. “Our healthcare system is stretched to the brink.”

The letter cites a government compensation fund established in the aftermath of 9/11 that was designed to provide funds for frontline workers who put their health and lives on the line during the catastrophic events that struck New York on September 11, 2001.

“The time has come for our government to establish a medical compensation fund for today’s frontline workers,” Mr. Finz wrote. “While the details and scope of such a fund cannot be determined until the aftermath of the current crisis, the need for this fund is of paramount importance.”

“We must stand with New York’s frontline workers and their families, not just in our time of crisis, but also in their time of need,” he wrote.

Mr. Finz praises Governor Cuomo’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak in New York, especially the Governor’s daily briefings and open communication about the virus’ toll on New York City and its surrounding areas. His letter notes that COVID-19 has already claimed the lives of more than 6,200 New Yorkers and has hospitalized over 17,000, with over 4,500 patients in intensive care.
