How To Have A Positive Fencing Experience

GREENVILLE, SC, March 21, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ — “There is a reason you can’t get a call back from many local fence contractors,” says James Garrett, owner of Garrett’s Greenville Fencing. Garrett runs a fence company in Greenville, SC. “If the job is under a few thousand dollars then it will be really tough to find someone to do the work at a fair price.”

Garrett says that the current climate of residential growth in Greenville County has left a big gap between the supply of fence contractors and the demand for their services. Garrett advises that if you have a repair or very small project that you pretty much need to be prepared to do the work yourself or expect to pay at least several hundred dollars even for the most minor jobs. “With so much work available, we just can’t do the small jobs that used to be our bread and butter. We have to pay our labor $200 a day. If the job is less than $500 then we are losing money on labor and overhead.” Garrett very frankly states. He further advises that if a home owner isn’t pressed for time and just needs something extremely generic, that some big-box stores might actually be a decent option. “We hear lots of bad reviews, but some home improvement chains offer some affordable options for people who need payment plans and fence jobs under $1,500.”

“Most of our work right now comes from installing privacy fences in new neighborhoods and from large outdoor renovation projects in upscale neighborhoods or suburban estates. We get new business from all over, but it always feels good when a neighbor of a previous install gives you a call. That let’s you know that you are doing something right.” Garrett remarks. “It’s tough online for a consumer to differentiate between legitimate businesses and a guy with a truck and a business card. A significant amount of our new business comes from customers who never could get the other guys to show up and follow up with an estimate.”

Garrett left us with some good advice. Be ready to pay a small premium for responsiveness, quality work, and a quick turn around. If the quote seems cheap then it is very likely that you will get what you pay for.

Garrett’s Greenville Fencing builds and installs custom fences throughout the Upstate of South Carolina.
