Landlord-tenant dispute lawyer: ‘Do not harass or try to intimidate a problematic tenant’

LIBERTYVILLE, IL, July 18, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ — The Law Offices of Thaddeus M. Bond, Jr. & Associates, P.C. announced that founding attorney Ted Bond was recently quoted in an article providing tips to help novice landlords evict problem tenants. Published on the real estate investing section of the Fit Small Business website, Bond is the first of seven experts to be quoted in the story.

“Whatever you do and whatever frustrations you’re facing,” he told Fit Small Business, “do not harass or try to intimidate a problematic tenant.”

Bond has represented clients in Northern Illinois in thousands of landlord-tenant disputes, evictions and other real estate matters. He said that one of the most important steps landlords can take when evicting a tenant is to stay within the law.

“No matter how obnoxious or toxic a tenant is, they still have rights,” Bond said. “Violating those rights could lead to lengthy, expensive legal proceedings, so knowing the law and conducting eviction proceedings according to it is vital to protecting the investment you make in your property.”

Bond told Fit Small Business author Emile L’Eplattenier that landlords should avoid behaviors that could constitute harassment, such as unannounced visits to the property and “excessive phone calls, e-mails or texts.” In addition to discouraging “DIY evictions,” the Fit Small Business article shares other tips about types of eviction notices, what to expect in court and how landlords can protect themselves from undesirable tenants.

Bond said that the complexity of eviction proceedings should communicate one significant message to burgeoning landlords:

“If you need to evict a tenant, it pays to hire a lawyer,” he said. “An experienced attorney will know relevant laws in your state, county and city and help you through what can be a months-long and arduous process.”
